About TOON

What makes a passepartout from you special?

Our mounts are unique for three key reasons. First, we use strong, acid-free, top-quality cardboard (1.7 mm thick), so your art and memories will stay beautiful for years without fading. We also use unique cutouts —not standard rectangles, but organic and playful shapes created with a special machine. This gives your artwork a truly unique character. And finally, all our mounts are designed and made in the Netherlands . This ensures you receive a quality product made with a lot of care and love!

What is the story behind the name TOON atelier?

Ah, the name! "TOON" is actually a nod to "showcasing" all your favorite memories and artwork. Because let's be honest, they're way too good not to share, right?

And have you taken a closer look at our logo? It features two little eyes! They symbolize truly, attentively "looking" at your precious memories, so they have a place to be fully admired.

The addition of "atelier" represents the creativity, craftsmanship, and custom-made character of our mats. It's the place where ideas come to life and where we lovingly and meticulously frame your story. Our mission is to capture your unique tone in a mat!

Size & Measurement

How do I measure the correct size for my passepartout?

A perfectly fitting mount starts with accurate measurements! To determine the outer dimensions, measure the dimensions of the glass or backing plate inside your picture frame. This is the exact size your mount needs to fit perfectly in the frame (consider standard sizes like 21x30, 30x40, 40x50, or 50x70 cm).

For the crop (the opening), measure your artwork or photo. Generally, allow for an overlap of about 0.5 cm on each side, so your artwork sits neatly behind the edge and doesn't simply sag. Note: This often doesn't apply to Polaroids, photo strips, and other standard photo sizes! We precisely cut the crop to the exact size for those, ensuring the characteristic white edges and other details of the photo remain fully visible.

Tip: always measure twice, it saves a lot of hassle!

What exactly is the difference between the outer dimension and the cutout?

The outer dimension is the total size of the passepartout, so this is the size that fits in your picture frame.

Our standard external dimensions: 21x30, 30x40, 40x50 or 50x70cm

The cutout is the opening in the center of the mat through which your photo or artwork is visible. Both dimensions are crucial for a perfect result, so be sure to choose the correct size when ordering.

Can I also order unusual or other (organic) shapes?

Absolutely! That's precisely what TOON atelier excels at! Where others stop at standard rectangles, we embrace organic, asymmetrical shapes. Do you have a specific, unusual size or a unique shape in mind? Contact us at hello@ateliertoon.com, and we'll be happy to discuss the possibilities of bringing your creative idea to life. Because nothing is too crazy for your precious memories!

Do I have a guarantee on my passepartout?

Absolutely! We fully support the quality of our mats. You have a 1-year warranty on the quality of the materials and any manufacturing defects. This means we ensure the mat is free from defects that are not the result of normal use, improper storage, or other external factors.

Please note: Damage caused by bumps, falls, misuse, or stains such as greasy fingers or moisture, is not covered by the warranty.

A little tip from us, because yes, even a mat needs to be treated with love! Always handle the mat with clean hands (or even gloves!) and protect it from physical impact.

If, despite everything, a defect covered by the warranty (such as delamination of the cardboard) does occur, please contact us at hello@ateliertoon.com. We want you to enjoy your unique mat for a long time to come!
